Derek represents individual and corporate clients in a variety of high-stake disputes, including asserting and defending claims of contract, fraud, deceptive trade practices, false advertising, and defamation. He has served as lead counsel on case teams, drafted and argued dispositive and other motions, taken and defended fact and expert depositions, presented evidence at hearings, and negotiated resolutions at mediation.
Derek was on the WMH team representing Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov, an anti-doping official who blew the whistle on Russia’s state-sponsored doping scheme at the 2014 Winter Olympics. He also represented an e-commerce company in a precedent-setting dispute with a state attorney general involving novel regulatory issues in the industry.
Derek maintains an active pro bono practice and successfully represented two incarcerated clients in the preparation and submission of petitions for executive clemency to the governor of New York; both petitions were granted and the clients were afforded early releases.
Prior to joining WMH, Derek practiced at a preeminent commercial litigation firm in New York.
