WMH Adds Partner Derek A. Cohen to Expand its White Collar Practice

Nationally recognized white collar criminal defense attorney and seasoned trial lawyer Derek A. Cohen joined WMH as a partner on May 1, bringing over 25 years of legal experience in complex and high-profile matters.

Described by Chambers as “a master in front of juries” and “extraordinarily savvy and very skilled,” Derek regularly represents U.S. and foreign companies, as well as senior executives, in a wide range of criminal and regulatory investigations by federal, state, and local authorities. Derek has successfully handled matters globally involving such areas as healthcare, securities, tax, and accounting frauds, FCPA/corruption and sanctions/export violations. Derek also has significant experience in complex commercial litigation matters and internal investigations.

Earlier in his career, Derek was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia, where he prosecuted some of that office’s most significant white collar matters. He was detailed from his position in Philadelphia to serve in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was Deputy Chief of the Fraud Section and Deputy Director of the Deepwater Horizon Task Force. Derek received the highest awards bestowed by the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his work as a federal prosecutor. He began his career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

Managing Partner Jim Walden commented, “We are thrilled that Derek has joined the WMH family.  With his addition, we are strategically expanding our New York and Philadelphia practices to include additional significant trial experience and investigations expertise. Derek is a leading white collar criminal defense lawyer, who has consistently obtained favorable outcomes for his clients in a wide range of investigations.”

Derek says, “I could not be more excited to join WMH and its team of outstanding people and legal talent. In a short time, WMH has distinguished itself as a major player in the white collar, litigation and monitorship spaces. Being able to contribute to the firm’s growth in Philadelphia along with continuing to work with my friends and colleagues in New York is really a perfect fit for me.”
