A veteran trial attorney, John is a partner in the Firm’s White Collar and Investigations practice, focusing on defending organizations and individuals responding to government investigations, and leading internal investigations into suspected wrongdoing.  John has counseled corporations in designing and enhancing their physical and Cyber-security, fraud, and AML compliance controls, by applying a blend of legal, technical, and data analytic expertise to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Prior to joining Walden Macht and Haran, John served as an Executive Managing Director at Stroz Friedberg, LLC, a global risk management firm, where he led its Intelligence and Investigations practice. In this role, John responded to government investigations of Fortune 100 enterprises across a broad spectrum of subject matters, including allegations of financial crime, specifically FCPA violations, corruption, money laundering, and fraud, as well as working with victims of cybercrime. During his tenure at Stroz Friedberg, John led the firm’s computer forensics and electronic discovery practices, as well as its AML compliance practice, playing a senior role in a global multi-year DOJ AML monitorship, in addition to designing and implementing an automated transaction monitoring system for an international private bank under DOJ investigation.

Earlier in his career, John served as Counsel for National Security Affairs for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, where he counseled FBI senior leadership on terrorism, intelligence, and espionage matters.  John also spent more than 12 years as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, where he distinguished himself by running complex investigations into financial fraud and participating in more than 20 trials, often appearing in the Second Circuit.  At EDNY, John also served as Chief of the Narcotics and Money Laundering Section, and Chief of the Violent Criminal Enterprises Section, among other leadership positions.  John previously served as a law clerk for the Honorable John E. Sprizzo in the Southern District of New York, and practiced law at Skadden Arps and Reed Smith.

John is a magna cum laude graduate of St. John’s University School of Law, and also earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from St. John’s University.
